Designing a trading algorithm

It is assumed that trading in markets like Nifty, Sensex, etc, is carried out by individuals(human beings) with knowledge and required qualification. But with the advent of computers things have…

Machines of Creativity

Artificial intelligence will displace 40% of jobs worldwide in the next 15 years. Creative jobs, however, require unorthodox thinking and imagination, concepts that are not fully understood by artificially intelligent systems making designers not easily replaceable by AI. Machine Learning, the ability of computers to learn and build new skills in areas where they have no existing knowledge, has allowed algorithms to learn and adapt better. Deep learning, an important subset of machine learning, comprising complex mathematical structures called neural networks are designed to mimic the human brain.

Breaking down the process of designing to individual decisions taken based on factors such as Form, Aesthetics, experience, etc., Machine learning can be applied to the process of design. The possibility of machines becoming creative develops friction as creativity is a uniquely human ability that makes us different. AI can help augment design, allowing humans to do more ‘human work’ and letting computers do the repetitive low-level tasks. This harmony could break and result in an imbalance where Artificial intelligence shifts from a collaborative intelligence to making independent design decisions.

Imagining a speculative future, where creativity is assisted by artificial intelligence which allows humans and our new machines to think and create together. This collaborative intelligence could lead to interesting scenarios. I explored these possible scenarios by prototyping a design assistant that helps you design. A design process can be broken down to individual decisions. Artificial intelligence could be used to analyze design decisions over time while providing suggestions and learning from the outcome. Creativity, being a uniquely human ability, has been difficult for AI to replace. Artificially Intelligent Design Assistant (AIDA) is a fictional company that creates Design tools. AIDA is portrayed to embrace human creativity and to not exist as anything more than just a tool. With better versions, the level of human influence and design time lessen, making it easier and faster for the user to create designs.

If designing could be simplified to turning a dial, then does it matter who turns it?
