The Design Research Theory Process

The past few weeks in my Desig research Thoery class we have been reading the chapter of our book “Designing with the Mind in Mind” where we had to choose a topic and make a prototype based on the subject we chose. The idea I chose was, “Recognition is easy; Recall is Hard”.

The section goes over the importance between recognition and recall, and how recognizing things is easy, and how it’s harder for our brains to recall information. The chapter describes how recognition and recall work in the brain as well along with explaining neural activity which are memories. Finally, it goes over the best way to keep this in mind for user-interface design.

Next in our process, we had to make a prototype describing our topic. I chose to make a picture representation of somebody at an interview listening to the interviewer, then when they are asked a question about what they were talking about they cannot recall what the question was.

After making my prototype I conducted some interviews to see how successful my prototype was I got responses such as;

“good making sure it's relatable and so that everyone thinks the same thing on first glance”

“ the prototype works very well”

Overall, I really enjoyed this project and think I stayed on topic and explained it well enough so that the people viewing my prototype could understand my topic by just seeing a picture and a small description.
