Voluntary Governance

Voluntary governance is the precise innovation blockchain technology has the potential to bring. It even avoids the trap of turning others off with political extremism. There’s no need for the usual angry political arguments. They just distract from the issue at hand, which is what is efficient usage of government resources.

Even, without the utilization of VR political experiments can still be carried out through privatization. Privatization opens government choice up to more political systems that serve the interest of the public. Gone are the days of complaining about politicians, and here come the days of literally voting with your dollars.

How is this to be done? Well, first off cryptocurrency gives the people control of their money without a monopolistic central government being capable of accessing funds. This innovation alone changes the nature of taxation, and allows the citizens to use their dollars to more directly dictate policy. Collecting tax revenue through traditional means should become more and more difficult over time. This will be an existential threat for current governments.

There are a few means central governments can address this threat. One, arrest and imprison tax evaders. While, more authoritarian governments will engage in this behavior it’s clearly against their own wishes. This tactic leads to burning through tax revenue, and they can’t even necessarily collect funds at the end. This options leads to catastrophic failure for authoritarian governments.

The second option is moving to a VAT. Many economists have already pointed out inefficient taxation policies. Most of these involve taxing investments. Taxation of investments makes investing more complicated and inaccessible to many from all of the complicated means profits and losses can mix to realize a tax bill that’s more than your net assets. All this accomplishes is keeping the poor out of growing their wealth, and the wealthy cannot be as generous to help the poor. A VAT only tax policy solves these complexities through only taxing consumption. Though, even that might have some issues.

But, what are the downsides of a VAT? Well, the poor may struggle more to get by. This can be solved through quarterly refunds. A computer just needs to calculate the quarterly refund due, and send that back. There might be an income level that is too wealthy for refunds, and still poor. To solve this issue gradually decreasing refunds are one potential solution as wealth starts growing. There might always be a populace on the losing end of this still. Eliminating taxation entirely would solve this issue.

The third and most economically efficient solution of course is privatization of government. This opens up governance to the free market, allowing us to test which forms of government best serves the people’s interests. Some claim the people want socialized government, others believe that’s an overreach, and government should be constrained to the military, courts, and law enforcement. There’s no reason a governmental system built around freedom of choice we cannot let these two ideas coincide and compete.

With everyone having control of their money these new voluntary governments can charge monthly membership fees, just like any other service. The fees collected will fund the various functions of government. If someone can figure out how to make socialism work that will become the form most choose. However, it might make more sense for the government to just focus on rights enforcement and laws, while another entity delivers the social care required for all. For instance, a healthcare provider engaging in malpractice will still be liable under a constrained private state. Have a feeling keeping government and welfare programs separate will lead to both functioning much better for their intended usage. If the government fails to deliver; just cancel your monthly payment, and move on to another provider.

This model will drastically reduce corruption, and improve the efficiency of government by applying the private sector rules to all levels of society. No longer will the government have guaranteed income while providing subpar services. Blockchain technology will enable the most radical revolutionary change in government. This might go so far that we no longer call it government at all.
