An Opportune Time

Myles Munroe once said ‘What you are, and what you become depends on how you use your time.’ Time is something that everyone on earth has been gifted, with the exact same measure. Each and every one…

Finding what is lost

We hit panic mode for a few minutes this morning. A wallet was missing. With a credit card (mine), debit card (hers) and ID’s (hers). After a mad scramble to cancel credit cards and giving my daughter information about how she will get a new ID I told her -visualize it returning to you. A few moments later I got this text…

Guess who found it!?

My answer was -The argyle dragon?

And it reminded me of the magic in everyday life. When I told her to visualize the wallet returning to her, I am pretty sure she rolled her eyes. I couldn’t see her but she definitely does not believe in manifesting through visualization. And yet she found her wallet.

There was a time when both of my kids would “believe” in the Argyle dragon. This is the dragon that lives in the laundry room. He finds the lost socks. The only problem is that he eats them. We also have a house brownie who takes things away from us. He uses them and we let him because you don’t want to anger the house brownie.

I suppose having an Argyle Dragon to help you find things allowed us to tap into our imagination and visualize how something would come back to us. It is a way of manifesting something lost, while the house brownie allows us to feel as if our belongings being lost to us has a use. Our lost belonging is now out in the world helping someone or something else. And having fairies makes it easier to manifest something because you can visualize how this will happen.

Trying to imagine that another teenager will find the lost wallet and return it is a challenge. I am sure there are many teenagers who would find it and turn it in. And there are a lot of teenagers who would take the trouble to go to the office to look for it, return to the classroom and retrace their steps. But many won’t. If you want the manifestation to work you have to actually suspend disbelief and trust that what you want will come to you. You have to be open to seeing different ways in which it will appear in your life.

The Argyle dragon helps get past the vague and nebulous concept of “miracle”

In fact the cartoon by Sidney Harris from the New Yorker has been one of my favorites for a long time. Our specificity is simply a magical creature.

In fact my partner and I have a joke that originated from misplacing our phones around the house. He would ask me -“Do you want me to call it?” and after saying yes to that, He would call out “PhoOooOone where are you? come out come out wherever you are!!”

At first this was funny, then it got annoying, and then I noticed that it worked. I would find my phone. Or whatever I was missing.

As I was about to settle into my work for the day I wanted to find my planner and couldn’t find it. My partner said -Do you want me to call it? and as he was calling for it I located it.

I have a reputation around the house for being able to find misplaced things and while I have a good friend who can find things that she hasn’t seen even, I can usually remember seeing something and put my hands on it. I must spend a lot of energy making a mental catalog of things I see and keeping the file updated. I have known for a long time that I am a visual learner.

The Argyle dragon aside, my scientific (well, it is a speculative scientific answer really) for why this works is because when we are not thinking about how exactly something is going to happen we have space in our minds to remember without having to remember something. As I mentioned, I am a visual learner and I can often find things because I have a memory of seeing it. Or I can imagine where someone might put it based on things that are similar (usually in the tools area or in the kitchen) and I can retrace my steps. But the mind is a funny thing. If I have a fixed idea of where I would see something, it gets hard to access my memory. I start to see it where I think it should be. When I imagine a dragon instead, my subconscious is free to access the memory of where I actually saw something.

Now I need to work on manifesting money. And tell me, how do you manifest or find things?
