Self Help That Actually Makes Sense!

Ever struggle trying to find a self help book that really spoke to you? That truly embodied the struggles you are facing? One that didn’t just spit medical jargon and facts at you that meant nothing to you but words on a page? I have spent years struggling to find one that I could really use and could really grasp the struggles I face personally.

Finally one day a coworker suggested a book for me to read and at first I was skeptical. Another person trying to tell me that I needed some help psychologically but that a book would be better than talking it out. Right, Story of my life.

Well as I had nothing to lose, except a couple bucks, why not just give it a go. And so I started reading it about a week ago during lunch breaks, butt breaks and the occasional potty break and now I am almost done reading it.

And all I can say is how is it a complete stranger can understand so deeply the irrational self doubts I suffer through daily. And how is it that even though this book blatantly tells you to suck it up and move on, it feels like a sign, a sign that I can finally start changing these patterns and begin to improve myself for myself?

I find myself writing a reflection in my journal after I have read a few pages each day. I also have found myself writing down some quotes from the book in my journal as an inspirational push for me. To have a book speak so profoundly to my soul and finally slap me in the face as if to say “ok yea you’ve been dealt some shit in life, but who hasn’t, what makes you so special?”

To find a book that gives meaning to your feelings, and pushes you to want to do better for yourself. To find a book that tells you the painful truth that your current situation is your own choice not your past experiences dragging you down. That right there is the harsh truth I need to hear.

To take what I have dealt with all my life and instead of feeling like it has caused irreparable damage that alters all my choices in the present but instead allows me to grow into a better person because of those experiences is something I have been needing to hear for a very long time.

This book is giving me a desire to want to put those words into practice and try to live in this new state of mind without hesitation or doubt. I want to be a better version of myself and to do so I am the only one who can accomplish that.
